DNS can't answer for that name

What is this error?

The name is not resolving to an address yet — either the record is wrong, or the change simply hasn't spread.

Common Causes

  • The record was just added and hasn't propagated.
  • The record type or value is wrong (A vs CNAME).
  • Nameservers point at a different provider than the one you edited.
  • A stale local DNS cache.

How to fix it (Check First)

  • 1Check the records at your registrar and compare them exactly with what the host asked for.
  • 2Confirm which nameservers the domain is actually using.
  • 3Wait. Some changes take hours. Check from another network or your phone on mobile data.

What NOT to do

  • Do not change the records every ten minutes — each edit restarts the wait.

Technical Details

Resolvers cache answers for the record's TTL. Editing at a registrar whose nameservers aren't authoritative has no effect at all.
